The History Of Weber County
The Fremont people were some of the initial settlers of the Weber County area, taking advantage of how the marshlands, rivers, and lakes in the area caused plantlife and animals to flourish, giving them plenty of food. Around the 1300’s, the Shoshone tribe were the main people to call this area home, but when white settlers came in the 1800’s, disease caused many deaths, and the area became home to settlers. Trappers were among the first to reach the Weber County area in 1824, and Mormon pioneers began settling down roots in the mid-1800’s.
While the original Weber County stretched from California all the way to Oregon, over time, it was cut down to its current boundaries, along the Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake, and Wasatch Mountains. The county started experiencing growth after the first transcontinental railroad was finished and Ogden became a main junction. Industries sprung, population boomed, and with the building of Hill Air Force Base during World War Two, the economy grew and more and more people were drawn to move here. Named for the Weber River, this beautiful county has everything you could need and many people who live here stay for the rest of their lives.
